Why do my cosmetics contain Lysine?

Posted by fizah pasha on

Lysine is one of the ten necessary amino acids for a healthy diet and is derived from plant sources. Amino acids are used to condition the hair and skin. Lysine, for example, is an important amino acid that promotes the formation of collagen, the primary protein found in skin.

Lysine is a critical amino acid that has been found to cure skin at the cellular level by promoting collagen synthesis and improving skin suppleness. By keeping healthy and robust skin, acne scars can be considerably decreased in appearance. Lysine can also help to minimise acne by boosting carnitine synthesis at the cellular level and is an amino acid derivative that softens the skin and conditions the hair, giving it a silky feel. It also helps to the texture of a product by aiding in the gelation of solvents while being stable under high heat settings.

Sunscreens, eye cosmetics, lipsticks, and hair care serums all contain lysine. Because of its high adhesion to skin, it is frequently used in cosmetics to assist assure longer-lasting wear. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel concluded a safety review of lysine in 2017 and determined that it is safe in reported cosmetic usage at concentrations up to 45 percent. It is accessible in the form of a white crystalline powder as a raw material.

According to Richard Bottiglione, MD, a board-certified dermatologist and the creator of Dermatologist's Choice Skincare, "There are 20 amino acids, 11 of which are termed "nonessential" and nine of which are "essential," yet all are necessary for the body's existence. The term "necessary" refers to the fact that the body can produce them on its own. The body cannot produce essential amino acids, thus they must be acquired from food." In other words, because amino acids are necessary for our bodies to function, it stands to reason that they are also necessary for anything that occurs on the skin's surface.
